#RIP: We’ve Lost the “Gumfighter” from Those Old Hubba Bubba Commercials

If you’re a person of a “certain age”, I’m about to hit you square in the face with some serious nostalgia.

An actor named DON COLLIER died yesterday of lung cancer.  He was 92.  He was in a lot of Westerns, like “El Dorado”, “The Undefeated”, “The War Wagon”, and “Tombstone”.

But if you were a ’70s or ’80s kid, you’re most likely to remember Don as the GUMFIGHTER in those old Hubba Bubba commercials.  (!!!)

He was an Old West hero who would take on bad guys in bubble blowing contests . . . and he always won, because his bubbles were bigger, and unlike his opponent’s gum, HIS Hubba Bubba didn’t stick to his face when his bubble popped.  (???)

In other words, as he would say after each “gumfight” . . . “Big bubbles, no troubles.”
